Solar Panel Removal, Inverter Replacement, and Repair in Alva
Solar service in Alva uses the same published prices as the rest of Lee County: detach and reset $200 to $400 per panel, string inverter replacement $1,500 to $3,500 installed, microinverter and optimizer swaps $300 to $600 each, wiring, connector and conduit repair $250 to $900, and a diagnostic visit $150 to $350. What changes out here is the drive and the kind of installation, not the rate card. Photos first, then ideally one trip once the right parts are confirmed on hand.
What Alva is
Alva is a census-designated place in the northeast corner of Lee County, sitting on both sides of the Caloosahatchee River, which runs east to west straight through the middle of the community. It covers 18.41 square miles and the 2020 census counted 2,725 residents, up from 2,596 in 2010, with a median age of 51.7 and a population the census recorded as 100 percent rural. State Road 80 is the spine: 18 miles west to the center of Fort Myers, 12 miles east to LaBelle. The historic core is genuinely historic, with a small library dating to 1909 and a chapel that opened in 1901 and now operates as a nonprofit museum.
For solar work that rural character is the whole story. Parcels are large, driveways are long, outbuildings and barns are common, well pumps and septic are normal, and metal roofs are far more prevalent than they are in the Cape’s tile and shingle neighborhoods. Ground-mounted arrays on acreage are a real category here rather than an oddity.
What breaks solar in Alva
Ground-mount problems are different problems. Conductors in conduit at grade meet mowers, string trimmers, irrigation, and rodents. Rodent damage under an array is the most common single cause of the isolation and ground faults found on rural systems, and it presents as a breaker that trips in bright sun, covered on the breaker tripping page. The good news: everything is reachable from the ground, so the repair labor is lower than the same fault on a roof.
Metal roofs are the easy case. Standing-seam clamp attachments do not penetrate the roof, so there is no flashing to fail and a reset is the cheapest of the three roof types. If your roof is coming off, that puts an Alva job at the bottom of the detach and reset range rather than the top. The process is on the detach and reset page.
Storm exposure without the surge. Alva is inland, so the surge that hit Pine Island and the Cape on September 28, 2022 was not the story here; wind and debris were. The National Hurricane Center recorded Ian’s landfall at Cayo Costa at 130 knots and 52,514 impacted structures across Lee County, and inland parcels took roof damage and tree strikes rather than water. A branch through a module is the cracked panel conversation.
The insurance clock. Florida Statute 627.7011(5) lets an insurer require replacement of a roof 15 years or older that cannot pass an inspection showing five years of remaining life, and that applies out here the same as it does in the Cape. The roofer will not touch the array.
Orphaned systems. Rural Lee County was sold as hard as the suburbs during the 2019 to 2023 boom. Pink Energy filed Chapter 7 on October 7, 2022, Vision Solar on December 28, 2023, Titan Solar Power closed on June 13, 2024, and SunPower filed Chapter 11 in August 2024. If yours is one of those, the orphaned system service takes it over and the installer closed page explains what is still covered.
Permits and the utility
Alva is unincorporated, so filings go to Lee County Building and Permitting Services at 1500 Monroe Street in Fort Myers via eConnect. The county requires a permit to add or modify any photovoltaic system and asks for signed and sealed wind-load documentation for the roof zone the panels sit in, closing a roof-mounted system with a solar final and an electrical final. Ground mounts carry their own structural and electrical review. The full walkthrough is on the permits and interconnection guide.
Northeast Lee County sits near the edge of more than one utility territory, so read the top of your bill rather than assuming: LCEC’s six-county footprint and FPL’s service area both reach into this part of the county, and the interconnection rulebook for an inverter change depends on which one bills you. Either way, the agreement names the inverter, and updating it belongs in the inverter replacement scope.
Getting a quote from Alva
Send the array from the ground, the inverter label, and the monitoring screen, and say whether the array is roof or ground mounted and how far the equipment sits from the house. If a neighbor has the same problem, mention it; one trip for two systems can help both of you. Prices are on the pricing page, timing on the FAQ. The nearest covered areas are Lehigh Acres, North Fort Myers, and Fort Myers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you drive out to Alva?
Yes. Alva sits in the northeast corner of Lee County on the Caloosahatchee, and State Road 80 runs 18 miles west from it to the center of Fort Myers and 12 miles east to LaBelle. It is a longer drive than a Cape Coral call, so photos first make sense: they let us quote before anyone makes a wasted trip.
Who permits solar work in Alva?
Alva is unincorporated Lee County, so building and electrical permits go through Lee County Building and Permitting Services at 1500 Monroe Street in Fort Myers via the eConnect portal contractors are required to use. Ground-mount arrays and roof-mounted arrays are permitted differently, and both need the engineering the county asks for.
Do you work on ground-mounted arrays?
Yes, and there are more of them out here than anywhere else in the service area, because acreage makes them practical. Ground mounts have their own failure pattern: irrigation and mowing damage to conductors, rodent activity in conduit, and post corrosion at grade. They are also far cheaper to service than a two-story tile roof.
